The perks and pitfalls of opening a new salon
Posted on 4th December 2013 by Simone Young
Owning my own salon has been my ultimate goal for what feels like forever. I’ve always found inspiration in the energy of a salon, and being able to create my own, vibrant, happy space is something I’ve always dreamed of.
I’ve worked in the hair and beauty industry for the past 19 years, and have seen first-hand what works and what doesn’t, and where the real opportunities for success lie. I think it’s about time I practice what I preach and give it a red hot go!
My aim is to create a warm and welcoming environment that people really respond to. I want the salon to be a lively and fun place to be, for our staff and for our clients.
Over the past few weeks I’ve been organizing everything from staffing to rebranding, and preparing to roll out our new marketing plan. There’s a lot to sort out before the salon begins to really come to life.
One of the biggest things I’m learning is that you can’t let being a perfectionist slow you down. Of course attention to details is really important, but sometimes you have to know when to let things be. Not everything is urgent.
With things moving at such a lightning-fast pace, being able to prioritize and not fuss over every last detail is what’s keeping me sane. It’s also keeping the cash flowing in, which is vital in these very early stages of building the business.
You can’t wait until everything is perfect, otherwise you’ll never get anywhere!
Over the new month or two, I will be rebranding the salon, rolling out a marketing campaign, and holding a launch party with a difference, all while trying to cope with the Christmas rush.
Join me as I navigate the perks and pitfalls of opening a new salon – it’s going to be an exciting journey, and I can’t wait!
