Question:
Scrolling in the appointment book in shortcuts can sometimes be too fast for the user, which leads to problems positioning the appointment book on the area desired.

The scrolling speed is most often a problem when the appointment book is scrolled across when there are more than 7 employees.

There are three ways to scroll in the Appointment Book:

1. Using the Employee Photos to scroll across the screen.
2. Using the Times on the Left side for scrolling the times down the screen.
3. Scrolling from within the Appointment Book itself to move across or up and down.

Answer:

The speed of scrolling for options 1 and 2 are out of the control of Shortcuts and are based on Windows defaults. As the Appointment Book is completely developed by Shortcuts, we can control the speed of scrolling from within this control.

If the scrolling is too fast using option 1 or 2, the user should scroll from within the Appointment book area. To scroll this way, the user should click on the appointment book background (at a point where there is no appointment) without releasing the click. To scroll around the appointment book, the user should move the selection off the edge of the appointment book in the direction they wish to scroll, once the selection is outside the control and the user has not released the selection the Appointment book will begin to scroll in the desired direction.

To stop the scrolling without making a selection, release the click outside the bounds of the appointment book.

If the scroll speed is still too quick using this option, it is possible to change the speed of scrolling for the appointment book from the registry.

The setting can be set as follows:

1. Run regedit.exe.
2. Go to \\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Shortcuts\General.
3. If the key “Scroll Interval” does not appear in the right pane then go to next section “Adding the Scroll Interval setting” otherwise move on to “Setting the Scroll Interval value”.

Adding the Scroll Interval setting:

1. Do steps 1 and 2 above.
2. Right click on the word General in the Left pane and choose New and then DWORD Value. Type in the word “Scroll Interval” for the new name and press Enter.

Setting the Scroll Interval value:

1. Double click the word “Scroll Interval” in the right pane.
2. In the Base section choose “Decimal”.
3. Enter the amount of milliseconds between scrolls that you want, the default value is 50. Try experimenting with higher values. A millisecond is one thousandth of a second. So to set half a second you would enter 500. Try a setting of around 250.
4. Press the OK button
