Category: Errors & Problems - Hardware Added: 1/07/2004
Article Rating: (0.0) By: 0 users Views: 1993
Article#: KB2504
Article Date: 11/09/03
Resolved in versions after: 5.0.1.55

Problem:
On a clean installation of Shortcuts 2002 up to version 5.0.1.55, difficulties have been experienced when configuring Receipt Printers and Cash Drawers connected to Com Port 2.

These difficulties have been where the receipt printer will only print random characters, and or print in jerking motions and or the cash drawer will not open, when connected to Com Port 2. An error message will then also appear at Point of Sale stating:

“Error in Opening Com Port”.

This is due to a default setting that Shortcuts 2002 enters into the Registry for the Electronic Scale driver. Shortcuts 2002 will load this driver by default even if no electronic scales are configured. This type of driver is included in the Shortcuts install as Shortcuts has the capability of operating with electronic scales.

Solution:
1. Close Shortcuts

2. Hit the Windows Start button (or hold down Ctrl and then press Esc) and choose Workshop from the Start Menu.

3. Select the Hardware button in the Workshop screen.

4. Click on the Electronic Scales tab and select the Type option to from the drop down list.

5. Click Ok and then the Exit Workshop.

6. Test the changes by printing out a receipt from the Point of Sale - Transaction screen.

If this is test unsuccessful please complete Solution 2.

Solution 2:
Please complete the following steps in the Registry screen.

1. Hit the Windows Start button (or Ctrl Esc) and Choose Run, type in "regedit" hit OK Select HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWAR\Scale Drivers\Plug Ins

2. On the right hand side of the screen you will see a (Default) String entry. Double click to edit this entry and delete the settings in the Value Data section if it contains data.

3. Exit out of the Registry screen and go back into Shortcuts and print a receipt from the Point of Sale - Transaction screen.
